Fantasy football was made for games like Friday's Navarre-Walton bout. Unofficially, junior running back Dewayne Carter rushed and quarterback Colton Kane combined for more than 340 yards running and five rushing touchdowns to lead the host Raiders to a 42-36 come-from-behind win at home. Walton quarterback Liam Miller torched the Navarre defense for more than 400 yards passing and three touchdown strikes. His favorite target was Corliss Stone, who pulled in 10 passes for more than 200 yards and two scores.
Navarre, which improved to 2-0, trailed the Braves 29-13 at halftime. But the Class 4A Raiders began wearing down Class 2B Walton (1-1) in the second half, when they outscored the Braves 29-7.
Still, the outcome was in doubt until Gio Randolph intercepted a Miller pass at about the Raiders' 10-yard line with less than a minute left to play.
The game was dramatically different from Navarre's season opener, a defensive struggle against the Fort Walton Beach Vikings the Raiders won 14-0.
Navarre will play its first road game of 2010 in Pensacola against another Class 2B team, the perennially competitive Catholic Crusaders. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday.
