Public input sought for SR 87 improvements

The Florida Department of Transportation - FDOT - will hold a public information meeting concerning improvements to State Road 87 from Five Forks Road to the Eglin Air Force Base Boundary from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 10. The meeting will be held in the Holley Dome at The Harbor Church, 4006 Highway 87 in Navarre.

The meeting is being conducted to inform the public of proposed improvements to SR 87. FDOT recently awarded Anderson Columbia a $14,968,277.92 construction contract to add lanes and reconstruct the three mile corridor along SR 87 in Santa Rosa County. Construction is set to begin Aug. 16, 2010. Improvements will include; reconstruction of the road from a two to four-lane divided highway, a new bridge over Dean Creek; stormwater management ponds, drainage and safety improvements, fencing, landscaping, new signs and pavement markings and installation of guardrails. Work is scheduled to be complete by the fall of 2012.

Maps, drawings and other information will be on display. FDOT representatives will be available to explain the improvements and answer questions. There will not be a public testimony period. All interested persons are invited to review and discuss the proposed improvements. Public participation is solicited without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability of family status.
