A Gulf Breeze man drowned off Navarre Beach Thursday, July 8, after attempting to rescue two teenagers who appeared in distress.

Randall Toney, 46, of Midway, and two other individuals noticed the teenagers in distress around 5:15 p.m. and immediately went into the water after them. However, as Toney was half-way to the swimmers, he went under water, according to a press release issued by the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office.

Toney did not immediately surface and was located approximately 10 minutes later. Efforts to revive Toney were unsuccessful. He was pronounced deceased on the beach.
