FDEP has reported to Santa Rosa County that air reconnaissance has spotted a sheen and tarballs just outside the Pensacola Pass. A skimmer is being dispatched to the area to begin skimming operations. The pass will not be closed at this time, as the amount of oil product is minimal. An outgoing tide should assist tonight in limiting any movement into the pass.
At this time, local vessels monitoring the pass have not been able to see either the tar balls or the sheen. Crews will attempt to verify the report at first light on Thursday, June 10.
No further information is available at this time.
