USPS, Gustav and Social Security Checks

The United States Postal Service is working closely with various federal agencies to support state and local authorities with their evacuation efforts in preparation of Hurricane Gustav making landfall along the Gulf Coast. The Postal Service urges all residents in the affected areas to follow their local evacuation instructions. On Friday August 29, and Saturday August 30, monthly benefit checks for customer’s in the 323, 324, and 325 ZIP Code areas were all processed and delivered. Customers who have questions regarding their Social Security checks should contact the Social Security Administration on their website at www.ssa.gov and click on the Hurricane Gustav link. The Postal Service is committed to exceeding customer expectations, and has procedures in place to help them reestablish connection with their lives through the mail. More information will be provided in future media advisories and press releases.
