The base joins the rest of the Emerald Coast in battening down the hatches in preparation for the weekend's forecasted Hurricane Gustav.

Base personnel have secured loose materiel and equipment, cleared storm drains and ensured vehicles are fueled.
The base has not declared an official hurricane condition status because the forecasted wind strength has not called for such measures, but officials encourage all personnel and their families to take similar precautions at their residences.
All military and Department of Defense civilian members assigned to Hurlburt Field are advised to stay in contact with their Unit Control Centers and to monitor local radio and television weather reports.
