County considers courthouse security upgrades

The Santa Rosa County Commission isn’t sure when it can replace the aging county courthouse, but it is trying to make the facility more secure.

“This is not an effort to do anything but to make our current facilities as safe and bearable for the people who work there as possible,”  Commission Chairman John Broxson said Monday.  “Right now, we do have a safety gap in the courthouse and we’re trying to fill it the best way we can.”
The commission today is expected to approve paying $87,812.23 for security upgrades, including video surveillance inside and outside the courthouse, door access control, emergency paging, kevlar enhancements for judges’  benches, tinting exterior windows and an expanded panic button system.
