BP oil spill settlement payments exceed $1B mark

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Businesses and individuals who claim BP's oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico cost them money have been paid more than $1 billion through the company's class-action settlement with a team of private plaintiffs' attorneys, court-supervised claims administrator Patrick Juneau said.

Florida Department of Environmental Protection, along with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, announced on Nov. 8 that the Deepwater Horizon Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) Trustees approved two proposed projects for Florida totaling more than $6.3 million.

Navarre vet operates on bald eagle

Dr. Natalie Dyson, a veterinarian with St. Francis Veterinary Center in Navarre, performed surgery on an injured bald eagle after the rare bird was found and handed over to the Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge.
