A year of the pier

Navarre is celebrating the first anniversary of the opening of the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier – the longest pier extending out into the Gulf of Mexico.

The pier opened June 5, 2010.

“The pier is a critical asset of the beach, it’s a lynch-pin,” said Jim Melvin,  Santa Rosa County Commissioner.

Calling the pier “a tiebreaker on where to go on vacation,” Melvin said the pier offered residents and visitors alike the opportunity to fish in the gulf’s beautiful waters.

Melvin himself enjoys walking the pier two or three times a month, enjoying the weather and the view.

The pier is a popular destination all year round, thanks to the mild weather and the abundance of fish that are available for fishermen both amateur and skilled.
