Deputy Marshall Holbrook has been with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s office for eight years. During that time he has worked with a variety of personnel within the department, but this year, his sidekick is a little different.
Holbrook has been partnered with Idgie, a 21-month-old yellow Labrador retriever that will be assisting Holbrook in his duties educating students on the dangers of drugs in local schools. Idgie and Holbrook will be making the rounds at all county schools, on a random basis, to help weed out drugs.
The idea behind the program came after funding cuts eliminated both the DARE program and the resource officer position from middle schools. Idgie and Holbrook will present awareness and educational information on the hazards of drug use to area kids.
