Nine malnourished horses rescued

Panhandle Equine Rescue investigated reports of animal cruelty Feb. 2 on the property of James Benjamin Bethea, 61, in Escambia County.
When PER investigated and saw the extent of malnourishment and emaciation, they contacted the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Bethea and charged him with eight counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty and two counts of felony animal cruelty. Bethea was released with a $9,000 bond.
