Preliminary work begins on Hurlburt overpass

U.S. Highway 98 commuters are starting to see small signs of the future as crews begin relocating utilities in preparation for the elevation of U.S. 98 this summer.

The project, which is expected to begin construction in July, will impact the intersection of U.S. 98 at Cody Avenue where the main gate of Hurlburt Field is located. The overpass is designed to elevate U.S. 98 over Cody Avenue reducing traffic congestion, while also improving access to the base’s main entrance.

“Traffic won’t have to stop on Hwy. 98, that stoplight won’t be there,” said Ian Satter, public information director for the Florida Department of Transportation. He added on the underside on Cody Avenue that North and South would still be signal controlled.
