Lt. Colonel Matt Glover has been relieved of command of the 8th Special Operations Squadron following the June 13 crash of the unit’s CV-22 tilt-rotor aircraft on the Eglin Range.
Glover has served as commander of the 8 SOS since May 2011 was removed as commander on Monday, June 18, said 1st Special Operations Wing Commander Colonel Jim Slife.
“The commander of the 8 SOS was relieved because of a loss of confidence in his ability to effectively command the unit,” Slife told the Navarre Press. “(He) is still assigned to Hurlburt Field.”
Slife said that Lt. Colonel Matt Smith has assumed command of the 8th Special Operations Squadron.
