Local churches celebrate military

Sisters Annabelle and Isabelle Sanabia, 2, enjoy some of the refreshments at Military Appreciation Day on Navarre Beach.

Coastline Calvary Chapel and First Baptist Church of Navarre hosted their second annual Military Appreciation Day at the Santa Rosa County Park on Navarre Beach on May 5, to the delight of local residents and families.

The event kicked off at 11 a.m. with free food, drinks, and entertainment for all ages. Cadets from Navarre High School’s Navy JROTC program helped man the dunk tank, paint faces and make balloon animals. Volunteers from First Baptist Church of Navarre’s CROSS ministry handed out refreshments.

Many of the families who came out to enjoy the sun and sand as well as the activities were military themselves. Nikki and Jacob Sanabia, who brought their family out for the festivities, have spent many years as a military family; Jacob works at the 556th Red Horse Squadron at Hurlburt Field.
