F-18s to begin flyovers in March

Naval F/A-18 aircraft from Navy Auxiliary Landing Field (NALF) Fentress in Virginia will be using Navy Outlying Landing Field (NOLF) Choctaw to continue their training mission while NALF Fentress is temporarily closed. 

The Navy’s F/A-18 Hornets and F/A-18 Super Hornets will be training out of Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola through late 2012 and will be seen in the skies over Navarre beginning in late February or early March.

“The reason why we’re doing this is that the current outlying landing field that supports the Naval Air Station in Oceania in Virginia is undergoing an extended maintenance period and because of that, we had to determine where we were going to get our training done,” said Commander Phil Rossi, Naval Air Force Atlantic, Force public affairs officer.

“As we looked at the different course of action, one of the sites that was determined to be feasible was Choctaw,” he said.
