Spokesmen for Eglin Air Force Base said the base is not currently pursuing the possibility of reopening the Navarre Beach Pass.
Spokesman Mike Spaits addressed Santa Rosa County commissioners Oct. 27 to clarify some “misinformation” that was reported in Navarre Press and Northwest Florida Daily News.
The agenda item discussed during an Oct. 24 commissioner committee meeting was whether to approve “a letter of support for reopening the Navarre Beach Pass on U.S. Air Force property at no expense to the county.”
During that meeting Commission Chairman Lane Lynchard said he thought the county should support the idea if the military was interested in exploring it.
However, Spaits said Commissioner Jim Melvin approached the Eglin Range Development Executive Steering Committee about reopening the pass, not the other way around.
