Six years and 500 million allocated dollars later, the Army’s elite Seventh Special Forces Group (7th SFG) will be opening their gates on May 2 at 9 a.m.
Those who have the proper identification such as a military id card, retiree card or some kind of access badge can get into the cantonment area.
“For example – if you can get on at Eglin – you can get on here. Once you are on the facility. However, the only two areas physical locations that will be open without an escort will be the shoppette and the chow hall,” said LTC Marty Schmidt, the current provisional commander of the 7th SFG. There are three ways in and two ways out with a five-mile drive from Highway 85 to the access point.
