Local aircraft commander honored with valor award

Major Matt Astroth, an assistant operations officer and an AC-130U aircraft commander with the 4th Special Operations Squadron, has been chosen as the recipient of the 2010 Aviator Valor Award.Navarre resident Major Matt Astroth, an assistant operations officer and an AC-130U aircraft commander with the 4th Special Operations Squadron, has been chosen as the recipient of the 2010 Aviator Valor Award.

The award is sponsored by the American Legion’s Aviators’ Post #743 and dates back to 1952. It is presented annually to one member from each of three branches of the armed forces, the Air Force, Army and Marines.
