According to Mike Spaits with the Office of Public Affairs, 96th Air Base Wing, Air Force Materiel Command, Eglin AFB, the U.S. Air Force has prepared a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to analyze the alternatives for implementing Military Housing Privatization at Eglin AFB and Hurlburt Field.
Copies of the Draft EIS are available for review and download from Eglin’s website at www.eglin.af.mil. In addition, hard copies can be found at area libraries, including the Navarre Branch Library, Mary Esther Library, Shalimar Library, Destin Library, Walton-DeFuniak Library, Niceville Public Library, Fort Walton Beach Public Library and Valparaiso Community Library.
The EIS comment period began Dec.23. and ends Feb. 7. Public Hearings will be held on Jan. 11 and 12, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at the Northwest Florida State College in Niceville and the Fort Walton Beach Municipal Auditorium, respectively. The hearings are being held to provide the public an opportunity to comment on the proposed alternatives and analysis of the potential environmental impacts.
