Remembering Pearl Harbor

Photo by Jennifer HensleyThough it’s been nearly seven decades since the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii,  students at Navarre High School don’t want anyone to forget about the thousands of Americans who were either injured or died that fateful day.

Beginning at sunrise on Dec. 7, the anniversary of the historic day, students from the school’s Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps gathered to place 2, 388 flags on the lawn in front of the school – one for each person who perished in the attack.

And even though temperatures on this day were hovering just above freezing when the group of 75 students assembled to place the flags, Cadet Commander Andi Gaskin, a senior at the school, said that makes no difference to these students.
