Monarch Madness flies into Navarre

The flutter of orange and black wings filled the air around the Panhandle Butterfly House as the Fifth Annual Monarch Madness event opened on Oct. 7. Children and adults from around the Gulf Coast gathered to witness the delightful insects in all their glory.

Volunteers staffed craft tables so that children of all ages could create a keepsake and learn a little more about the life and habitat of the monarch butterfly.
Taylor Winters, age eight, came with her family from Niceville and was proud to show off her mobile that depicts the life cycle of a monarch.
“First the butterfly lays the eggs,” she explained, pointing to the handmade memento and showing off her new found knowledge.
Joanne Connor of the Navarre Garden Club was on hand to assist the children. The craft area was divided so that all the children could participate at an age appropriate level.
“It’s so interesting when the kids come to do the tour,” said Connor. The walking tour allows guest to see the entire lifecycle of the butterfly, and educate themselves on preservation.
