Exercise vital to firefighting

Running into burning buildings, crawling to avoid smoke and carrying heavy objects are just some of the necessary physical activities firefighters do.

Midway Fire Department takes exercise seriously, exercising for at least an hour daily to be ready for anything at a moment’s notice.
“Since the department has started, we have set a standard for exercising,” said Fire Chief Jonathan Kanzigg.  “We leave it up to (the firefighters) what they want to do as long as they do a minimum of an hour.”
