Florida fights against synthetic drugs

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi shows some of the colorful packaging that chemists use to market synthetic drugs to children during a July 16 briefing at the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

Florida State Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fort Walton Beach, and Okaloosa County Sheriff Larry Ashley hosted an informational meeting on July 16 with Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to brief the public about the continuing battle against synthetic drugs.

Law enforcement officers, school officials and retail owners from around the panhandle gathered to listen to the history of synthetic drugs, what lawmakers are doing to deal with the problem and how the community can get involved to stem the devastation caused by these substances that are often perceived by young people as safe because they are sold over the counter.
