Homebirths on the rise

Taylor Rossiter, 5, says hello to her newborn sister, Arabella, who was born at home with the assistance of a certified nurse midwife.

For Tara Morris, 27, of Navarre the decision to have her daughter Ariel at home was a simple one.

Her husband and his three younger siblings were born at home, and Tara knew she wanted a birth that was free from drugs and other medical interventions.

“When we talked about (home birth) and started looking into it we realized that not only was it safer, but it was more comfortable and well suited to what we wanted out of a birth,” Tara said.

Tara is not alone. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a report titled “Home Births in the United States, 1990–2009” in Jan. 2012 detailing the rising number of home births in the US.
