“I saw red.”
The phrase is usually associated with anger, but the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) wants American women to associate the color red with something far more sinister than anger; heart disease.
Heart disease is the number one killer of women in America; more women lose their lives to heart disease than breast cancer, stroke, lung disease and diabetes.
There remains a persistent myth however, that women are less at risk of heart disease than men.
February is American Heart Month, and the NHLBI is in its tenth year of sponsoring The Heart Truth, a campaign to alert women to the risk factors of heart disease and how to prevent the disease.
