Health & Fitness HIV Screening Day draws awareness

HIV Screening Day draws awareness

Santa Rosa County Health Department highlighted the need for HIV testing in observance of National HIV Testing Day.

The Milton Clinic offered a day of walk in HIV testing on June 27.  Both the blood test and oral swab testing were offered.

This is the first year that the testing has been offered on a single day to draw attention and awareness to the need for the public to know their HIV status. Four residents came into the clinic to take advantage of the opportunity.

The health department offers testing for HIV all year but used the national event to encourage more people to confirm their HIV status. Those who test positive can benefit from early treatment and lead longer, healthier, more productive lives.  HIV testing is strictly confidential and anonymous testing is also available.

The Midway clinic also offers testing for HIV, but clients must make an appointment. There is not always someone in the office to assist with the test.
