May is National Mental Health Awareness Month, and for organizations such as the National Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health America, advocating for the mentally ill is a full-time job.
Mental Health America is a non-profit group that was established in 1909 and is designed for “the mental health of all Americans, especially the 54 million individuals with mental disorders, through advocacy, education, research and service.”
NAMI is a nationwide organization started in 1979, according to their website, “dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness.”
