For years, the standard treatment for menopause symptoms was hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
The question of the safety of HRT drugs has lead more women to quest for different treatment options. Emerald Coast women are part of that quest.
The December “Dinner with the Doc” series at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola provided an opportunity for more than a dozen women to meet Dr .Karen Kennedy, gynecologist, and to hear her presentation on the ups and downs of menopause. There were a lot more downs. Women know the symptoms well -- hot flashes, vaginal and bladder atrophy, joint pain, anxiety, irritability, depression, sleep disturbances, libido decreases, and the dreaded weight gain. Women are no longer just surviving, but trying to thrive with it.
