Local runner braves cold for first marathon

After running for recreation, for more than 25 years, Clayton Honaker decided to take the plunge.

The Navarre resident completed his first marathon – the Disney Marathon at Walt Disney World in Orlando – on Sunday.

The event is one of the top rated marathons in the country, with more than 50,000 participating the weekend’s festivities.

“It was something different. I’d always wanted to try and had never done it before,” Honaker said.

Honaker started prepping for his 26.2 mile run a year ago. Though he had run half-marathons in the past, practicing for a marathon is a different animal, he said.

Honaker brought his 9-year-old daughter Bailey, and wife Laurie, to Disney for the long weekend last Thursday.
