Local author helps students develop their skills

Author Marion Marchetto talks to students at Woodlawn Beach Middle School about writing and becoming better readers. Marchetto fielded questions from students about how she comes up with ideas for her books and who her favorite authors are.

Students at Woodlawn Beach Middle School got a visit from local author Marion Marchetto on Sept. 14, when Marchetto came to talk to sixth-grade students about reading and writing, two subjects dear to her heart.

Jennifer Hensley, sixth-grade teacher at WBMS, coordinated the visit with Marchetto as a way to inspire her students to learn more about writing and to encourage some of the school’s “reluctant readers.”

Marchetto, the author of four historical fiction novels, the latest of which, “Stairway to My Heart,” was published in August, spoke to the students about her work as an author and how the students could develop their own writing skills.
