I AM – West Navarre Primary School

David Crissey is a man on a mission.

With the pace that would rival that of his students, Crissey is eager, and quick, to explain what exactly “I AM” means, both personally, as well as to the community of West Navarre Intermediate.

“We’ve never really had a theme here, and it’s time we had a theme,” Crissey said.

Part of that theme includes newly-hired Vice Principal Shana Dorsey. Dorsey, a native of Grand Bay, Ala., has more than 18 years of experience in education, most of which she has earned in Santa Rosa County Schools.

She’s been involved with many different aspects of student life. She served as dean of students at Woodlawn Beach Middle School, taught reading at Navarre High School, and taught in Escambia schools as well.

Dorsey said this is her first time teaching in a school in which her own children will attend.

“I am invested even more so now,” she said.

When asked if she was ready to commit to the “I AM” project, she smiled broadly.

“I can’t wait.”

David Crissey and Shana Dorsey have planned changes for the West Navarre Intermediate School family. Focusing on the ‘I AM’ concept, Crissey and Dorsey will be introducing service projects, accountability and the power of positivity throughout the school year. The Navarre Press will be following along as students, staff, parents, and community members discover of the encouraging changes in store for the 2012-13 school year.
