SRCSB presents accolades, awards

The Santa Rosa County School Board’s monthly meeting on April 26 highlighted the many achievements of county schools, students and teachers.

Tim Wyrosdick, superintendent, began the meeting by honoring the county’s schools for their outstanding performance during the 2012 Million Minute Marathon, a statewide initiative to encourage reading, held during Literacy Week last February.

SRC schools were one of the top six participants in this year’s Million Minute Marathon.

“I just wanted to bring that to your attention and give accolades to all teachers and moms and dads and everybody who said let’s take a minute and read,” Wyrosdick said.

Charlene Kincaid, coordinator of mathematics and science for the district, was the bearer of more good news, congratulating those in the district who placed at this year’s Florida State Science Olympiad. Beckwith and his team from Avalon Middle School garnered first place in the rocks and minerals category and second place in forestry.
