Cadets at Navarre High School’s NJROTC program recently helped celebrate the 236th birthday of the United States Navy with traditional birthday cake. What wasn’t quite so traditional, however, was the amount of cake at the celebration.
The cadets baked and decorated more than 20 cakes in a variety of naval themes to help commemorate the historic event, and then voted on the best decorations.
Sophomore Emily Shultz won with her cake which was decorated to look like a Naval Officer’s hat, or cover.
“It looked really easy to do,” said Shultz, “It took four hours.” Shulz said that she did the majority of the decoration herself, but that her mom was on hand to assist.
After the judging was complete, the cadets were free to dig in, but they also shared the cake with other teachers and office staff.
