A local substitute teacher needs a tutoring student to be on the road to making a difference.
Gerard Akkerhuis said he wants to tutor a child in Santa Rosa County to show he is capable of fulfilling the responsibilities for the Title 10 job he applied for in the Okaloosa County School District.
He said he has done the training, his paperwork is in and he hopes to get a call for the job, but knows people will be concerned because of his age.
“I have difficulty walking and I’m almost 81 and people might not think an ideal candidate for giving tutoring. So I wanted to tutor a child in Santa Rosa County to show I can do the job,” said Akkerhuis. “I would ask the student to give me an honest evaluation and hope that helps so I can be called to serve.”
