School board approves raises despite budget cuts

The Santa Rosa County School Board officials have had to make difficult choices for the coming school year due to cuts in federal and state budgets that left the county with a $4.4 million-shortfall.

Despite the cuts, the board approved raises for 38 county employees at the May 12 board meeting.

According to board documents from Lewis Lynn, director of Human Resources, the raises were due to a gap between the starting pay for new employees in similar positions and the salaries of current employees.
