CSI: Woodlawn Beach Middle School

Sammy Scarecrow lay in the sun; the area around his body roped off with police tape, and his body covered with plastic bugs and littered with wildlife. Surrounding Sammy are student investigators, working in shifts to gather clues to help solve the mystery of Sammy’s untimely death.

Sammy Scarecrow is the prop used to simulate a crime scene where students at Woodlawn Beach Middle School use environmental science and insect etymology to solve the crime of Sammy Scarecrow’s  “death.”

Andrea Santilli, seventh-grade life science teacher at WBMS, has worked with the Santa Rosa County Extension Office and 4-H to provide a unique learning experience for all her students.
