When Torrey Williams, a soon-to-be 16 year-old sophomore from Gulf Breeze High School, found out he was nominated to attend a prestigious leadership conference in Washington, D.C., he was surprised – and a little skeptical.
“When I saw the letter that came in the mail, I remember thinking, ‘Wow’,” said Williams. “Then I saw how much it cost and where it was and I thought ‘maybe not.’”
Williams was nominated to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum, a bi-yearly symposium of exceptional high school students who, according to the organization’s website, are the nation’s “highest-achieving students.”
For Williams, even the opportunity to attend was an honor.
