At its March 22 meeting, the Santa Rosa County School Board announced that it is applying for a Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) grant that could bring a $1.2 million grant to benefit Navarre High School, Holley-Navarre Middle School and Woodlawn Beach Middle School.
The district would be able to serve students through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activities for a period from June 15, 2010 -Sept. 30, 2013.
One of the factors that should give Santa Rosa County an advantage in the application competition is that Navarre has one of the nation's highest military-student populations - somewhere between 30-35 percent of total student population.
The school system will not have to provide financial or in-kind responsibilities during the grant period.
