April events raise autism awareness

April is Autism Awareness Month and a variety of events throughout Santa Rosa County are intended to raise awareness of the condition.

Autism is a developmental disability that affects a person’s ability to understand what they see, hear and otherwise sense. Autism primarily affects communication. People with autism typically have difficulty understanding verbal and nonverbal communications and learning appropriate ways of relating to people, objects and events.
