During his days in the U.S. Navy, Ralph Agnew dressed up as Santa Claus every Christmas Eve. He memorized the names of each child he visited, giving them gifts.
“One time Ralph went into military housing in South Carolina and got jumped by about 30 kids,” said his wife Shelly Agnew. “Another episode, he went into a house and a little boy jumped from the stairway into Ralph’s arms.”
Playing Santa Claus is just one example of how Agnew has dedicated his time serving his community regardless of where he lives. Agnew was awarded the Legend’s Award at the Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce 2013 Installation and Awards Banquet on Jan. 5 not because he played Santa Claus, but for his exceptional leadership and volunteerism.
