Unemployment compensation tax rate notice mailed

The Florida Department of Revenue mailed unemployment compensation tax rate notices in December, and the first payments are due March 31. The minimum tax rate for 2011 is .0103, or $72.10 per employee, a nearly three-fold increase over the minimum tax paid in 2010. The maximum rate remains 5.4 percent, or $378 per employee.

According to the National Federation of Independent Business/Florida, much of the increase comes from “socialized” costs paid by all employers for unemployed workers from companies already at the maximum rate and those that have gone out of business.
