Inaugural Flag Day run/walk a success

For an inaugural 5K run/walk race, the Columbiettes hosted a fun and family-friendly race.

Complete with the usual race packet and first class tee shirt, the women’s charity group of Gulf Breeze’s St. Sylvester Catholic Church and their male counterparts—the Knights of Columbus—also fed the 250 race participants and the throng of race volunteers breakfast.

“The Columbiettes are the ladies auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus and perform charity work in the community and for the church,” said Ellen Stanley, parish member and president of the group. “Our race was conceived while Fr. Steve O’Connor, the beloved, late Pastor of St. Sylvester’s was assigned here. It did not come off until nine months ago when our group decided to host a 5K race for charity.”

The Columbiettes support many charitable groups within the community, including South Santa Rosa Caring and Sharing, Gulf Breeze Interfaith Ministries, and the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.
