United Way conference to create service provider relationships

The United Way of Santa Rosa County is holding the Service Provider Conference so the non profits, businesses and other service organizations can better coordinate their efforts, such as food drives. In a time when funding cuts are weighing heavy on many budgets, service providers find they are facing a time when every penny counts.

To make sure that penny is stretched, the United Way of Santa Rosa County has revived the Service Provider Conference.

In 2003, Interfaith Ministries wanted to hold quarterly meetings for service providers to meet, discuss issues and needs of the community, according to Shirley Cornett, executive director of Interfaith Ministries. Cornett said the idea fell through, but thought it was time to once again facilitate such a conference in the area.

“What really sparked the idea was the fact that I feel that all the helping agencies in Santa Rosa County could be much more effective with the clients we assist if we all really knew what is available,” Cornett said.
