Good Neighbor House gives $100,000

Jack and Carol Bloomer manage the Good Neighbor House Thrift StoreJack and Carol Bloomer, of Navarre, may be the managers of the Good Neighbor House Thrift Store, but they credit their all-volunteer staff for the hard work that went into making the last year of business a huge success.

The Good Neighbor House is run in conjunction with Navarre United Methodist Church, and is the brain child of former Pastor Dan Godwin, who has since moved on to a new church in Bonifay, Fla. Designed as a fundraiser for the church’s charitable work, the thrift store opened in March 2009 and since then has raised more than $100,000.

The money is generated by the sale of donated, gently used items and goes to fund the church’s We Care ministries. The ministry helps provide financial assistance for community members who have difficulties with necessities such as rent and utilities. We Care also runs a food pantry and does missionary work.
