Volunteers clean up Opal Beach

Maggi Roberts usually organizes a Navarre Beach Runners and Walkers Meetup in Navarre, but last week she organized her usual runners and walkers to help clean up asphalt and old road bed at Opal Beach between Navarre and Pensacola Beaches.

Chamber holds reef ribbon cutting

The Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 21 to celebrate the installation of the artificial reefs on the sound side of Navarre Beach.

Installation of artificial reefs began today off the coast of Navarre Beach. A documentary crew from the Weather Channel is also on site taping the installation process.

Firefighters’ request denied on principle

Despite urging from firefighters, the Navarre Beach Volunteer Fire Department board of directors denied a request to purchase a $7,000 Sea Doo for water rescues during a May 9 meeting.

Fighting more than fires

The Navarre Beach Volunteer Fire Department has answered seven water rescue calls this year alone. Over the past three years, the firefighters have performed 107 water rescues.
