The Junonia bears a striking resemblance to a cheetah with its brown-spotted appearance. It’s smooth texture and spotted appearance is what shell collectors seek when walking along the shores or snorkeling in Florida’s clear waters.
The shell is such a rare find that in Sanibel Island, a pristine spot located near Fort Myers, when a sheller finds one, they get their picture with the Junonia published in the local paper.
But on Oct. 6, more than 600 miles northwest of Sanibel Island, the rare Junonia was found on Navarre Beach by Aaron Carmouche.
