Road trip results in new life

Four years ago James Lee Calkins, then 22, got in his car in Santa Clarita, Calif., and started out on a trip that would alter the course of his life.

“There wasn’t a lot of opportunity there. The economy was getting bad,” Calkins explained, “I wanted to leave California and come to Florida.”

With a plan to come to Florida, he set about saving his money that he earned working at his grandfather’s window company.
