Beach Sea turtles hatch against all odds

Sea turtles hatch against all odds

Cathy Holmes, project director for the future Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center, and Teresa Pack, president of the Navarre Beach Leaseholders and Residents Association, hold up a painting of what the old Navarre Beach county park visitor center will look like as the conservation center.

Vandals, crabs and storms have made it hard for the sea turtles eggs to reach maturity and hatch this year, but despite the odds against them, many have hatched and reached the Gulf.

Cathy Holmes, project director of the future Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center, and leader of the sea turtle patrol, briefed the Navarre Beach Leaseholders and Residents Association members about the plight of the sea turtle hatchlings during an Aug. 18 member meeting.
