The permits needed to start the installation of an artificial reef in the Gulf of Mexico off of Navarre Beach have been approved.
The permits and a tentative start date were discussed during the Navarre Beach Marine Sanctuary Committee Meeting held on Jan. 30.
Mark Griffith, the Navarre Beach Sanctuary permit coordinator, informed the committee that the board of county commissioners received the notice that the permits were granted. The Department of the Army Corps of Engineers approved the permit application Jan. 19. Griffith stated that they are still waiting on the Sound-side permits, but the Gulf side is a "done deal."
