Tourist Development Council to attract home schoolers and snowboomers

Charlene Mauro, Navarre Beach Marine Science Station instructor, conducts a soundside marine biology class to high schoolers at Navarre Park. The Santa Rosa Tourist Development Council discussed its 2012 marketing plan with its marketing company Mdi Media Group on Nov. 16 during a regular board meeting.

Don Davis with Mdi told the TDC about the latest market trends that the company would take advantage of during upcoming year.

“One of the most promising things I think is slow, steady growth all the way through 2013,” he said. “We have to keep reminding ourselves that this is a marathon, not a sprint.”

He said travelers were still short on money and time and still looking for the best vacation deals online. Even though travelers have less time and money for trips, Davis said their expectations were still high when choosing a place to go.

“They want a cheap, cheap rate but they still expect the granite countertops. They expect a first-class experience,” he said.
